EQUIPMENT

  • Rolling Pin
  • Pizza wheel
  • Baking pan
  • parchment paper
  • Non-stick spray
  • Silicone or pastry brush

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 (14oz.) package pizza dough room temperature, we use Pillsbury brand
  • ¼ cup salted butter
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon oregano
  • ½ teaspoon dried parsley
  • 2 Tablespoons parmesan cheese
  • marinara sauce for serving

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Prepare baking pans by lining them with parchment paper and spraying with non-stick spray.
  • Open the can and roll out the pizza dough. You want to form it into a large rectangle.
    1 (14oz.) package pizza dough
  • Cut the rectangle in half so that you have 2 equal squares of dough.
  • Cut each square into 4 strips. Cut these strips in half. You should now have 16 (fairly) equal pieces of dough
  • Roll each strip into an 8 inch rope. Tie the rope into a knot (you can choose whether to tuck the ends under or not).
  • Place each knot on the pan lined with parchment paper and sprayed. Leave a little space between each knot to allow for rising.
  • Lightly cover the pans and allow the knots to rise until doubled in size (I found this took about an hour.)
  • Heat the oven to 400°F.
  • Melt butter and stir in seasonings: garlic powder, oregano, and parsley.
¼ cup salted butter, ½ teaspoon garlic powder, ½ teaspoon oregano, ½ teaspoon dried parsley
  • When the knots have finished rising, brush on the butter mixture, and save some for later.
  • Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden.
  • Add 2 Tablespoons parmesan cheese to the leftover butter mixture.
    2 Tablespoons parmesan cheese
  • Allow the knots to cool slightly, then brush this mixture over the knots. Sprinkle them with extra cheese if you’d like!
  • Serve with marinara dipping sauce on the side.

NOTES

  • What's The Best Way To Store Leftover Garlic Knots Made With Pizza Dough? Place any leftover garlic knots into an airtight container, or a Ziploc bag with the excess air squeezed out. Then they can either be stored at room temperature for 2 to 3 days or in the fridge for up to one week.
  • How Do I Bake The Knots From Frozen? To bake these garlic knots with pizza dough from frozen, first place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Then allow them to come to room temperature for about an hour. Then brush them with the melted butter mixture and bake at 400 degrees for about 15 minutes. Or just until they are golden!
  • Can Olive Oil Be Used In Place Of Butter When Making This Recipe? Yes, use the same amount of oil. I also would suggest adding 1/4 teaspoon of salt to add a bit of flavor to the oil.
  • How Come The Bottom Of My Garlic Knots Are Dark, But The Top Doesn't Seem Baked? The cause for this may be your oven. I'd recommend moving your oven rack higher and baking them in the top third of the oven.
  • Did I Ruin The Knots By Adding The Parmesan Cheese To The Butter Mixture And Then Brushing Them Before Baking? Not at all! These garlic knots with pizza dough will still be really tasty this way too!
