There’s nothing quite like biting into a juicy, delicious hot dog on a warm summer day! Whether you’re grilling in the backyard or enjoying one at the ballpark, hot dogs are a quintessential part of the summer experience.

Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, air-fried hot dogs are the perfect way to satisfy your hot dog cravings any time of the year. So go ahead and indulge in a hot dog whenever you want – it’s always the right season for this American classic!

Why Air Fry?

Air-frying your hot dogs can ensure they all come out hot and ready at the same time, without having to get out the grill, put a pan on the stove, or even start a campfire! Yes, the campfire is nostalgic, but you can’t always rely on having one handy!

Not only are Air Fryer Hot Dogs convenient, but the hot air circulating around them gives them a crispy outer layer while keeping the insides juicy and delicious! The buns get warm and fluffy while getting a light crisp on them!

Why Do I Love Air Fryer Hot Dogs?

I love how customizable hot dogs are! You can cook them longer for an extra well-done hot dog, put any of your favorite toppings on them, or even eat them plain! Make a couple at a time or an entire batch for the whole family! You can even swap your typical bun for a pretzel bun, or no bun at all!

What Type Of Air Fryer Should I Use?

Any air fryer that is at least 5 Quarts will do the trick. This one is my favorite!

  • Onions (Raw or Cooked)
  • Jalapeños

  • Hot Sauce

How Do I Store Air Fryer Hot Dogs?

Store your leftover hot dogs in an air-tight container in your refrigerator for up to three days.

Tips And Tricks

  • Be sure to score the hot dogs with a knife before you air fry them so they cook evenly and don’t burst open in the air fryer. This also allows toppings to seep into the hot dogs, creating a perfect bite each time!
  • Don’t worry about greasing the air fryer tray before you cook. The hot dogs won’t stick to the tray, but you can use an air fryer liner if you’d like.
  • This recipe works for hot dogs, brats, and even sausage links. The timing may need to be adjusted based on the thickness of the brats or sausage.

How Do I Serve Air Fryer Hot Dogs?

Hot dogs go with so many side dishes! Chips, salads, beans, vegetables, the possibilities are endless! For a classic summer meal, we recommend cooking up our Italian Pasta Salad or serving them alongside these Easy Cheeseburger Sliders!

Cook Time: 8 minutes
Total Time: 13 minutes

EQUIPMENT

  • Air fryer 5 quart or larger

INGREDIENTS

  • 4-6 hot dogs
  • 4-6 hot dog buns
  • Melted butter or oil for brushing the buns optional

Toppings

  • Ketchup
  • Mustard
  • Relish
  • Onion

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Preheat the air fryer to 400°F.
  • Cut a few slits into each hot dog. Do not cut too deep.
  • Transfer the hot dogs into the air fryer basket in an even layer.
  • Air fry for 4-6 minutes, or until it is cooked to your liking.
  • Place each of the air fried hot dogs between buns and return them to the air fryer basket. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may need to do two batches.
  • Lightly brush the tops of the buns with a little melted butter or oil, if desired.
  • Air fry for 1-2 more minutes to get the buns warm and toasty.
  • Transfer to a serving platter and add your favorite toppings. Enjoy!

NOTES

  • Make sure to score the hot dogs by cutting small slits across. This will help it to heat more evenly, help prevent the casing from bursting or tearing, and also allows condiments to seep through the slits.
  • You don’t have to grease or spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. The hot dogs do not stick to it. You can use a disposable liner for easier cleanup if desired.
  • Use your favorite brand of hot dogs, brats, or links.
  • Switch up the buns to your liking. Pretzel buns, Hawaiian buns, wheat buns, sourdough buns, or classic buns are all great options.
