All About Snowcone Oreo Truffles

Taste: These Snowcone Oreo Truffles give you all of your favorite Oreo flavors with the delicious addition of cream cheese and almond bark, making each bite enjoyable!

Texture: Forget about the sticky, melty mess of regular snow cones on a hot summer day, and say hello to these Oreo Truffles! Oreos combine with cream cheese to create a creamy and decadent filling before being coated in smooth almond bark and topped with crunchy sanding sugar!

What Are Snowcones?

Snowcones are a frozen dessert that typically consists of crushed, shaved, or ground ice, then topped and soaked in flavorful syrups. These treats are called snowcones because the texture closely resembles snow.

The flavored syrups include MANY flavors, from fruits like raspberries and lime to sweet flavors like vanilla or bubblegum. These Snowcone Oreo Truffles are red, white, and blue with no additional flavoring. Only Oreo flavors over here!

Snowcone Oreo Truffle Ingredients

Oreos- This recipe calls for Golden Oreos as the base for flavoring reasons AND color reasons. Regular Oreos can be used, but keep in mind due to their darker color it may show behind the coating of the truffles.

Cream Cheese- Cream cheese is used as the binder in this recipe, holding the Oreo crumbs together.

Almond Bark- This is the coating of the Oreo Truffles, allowing sanding sugar or sprinkles to easily stick to the truffles.

Sanding Sugar- We use red, white, and blue sanding sugar for this recipe to mimic “syrup” on snow cones.

Variations And Substitutions

  • Oreos– You can swap Golden Oreos for any flavor you’d like. I prefer to use Oreos with a lighter color cookie piece so the almond bark can easily cover the color of the Oreos. With all of the different flavors of Oreos out there nowadays, be creative! S’mores, Lemon, and Sour Patch Kids Oreos are next on my list to use in this recipe!
  • Sanding Sugar– This recipe calls for red, white, and blue sanding sugar. You can use these colors for holidays such as Memorial Day, 4th Of July, or Labor Day, or you can be creative and use bright pops of color for any party or get together you’d like! You can even make solid color Snowcone Oreo Truffles, if you’d like.
  • Cream Cheese– I have also had success using store-bought frosting in this recipe. I add small amounts of frosting at a time to achieve the texture I want.

How To Make Snowcone Oreo Truffles

STEP ONE: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside. Add your Oreos to a food processor and pulse until the Oreos are finely crumbled. Once crumbled, add the crumbs to a medium-sized bowl. Add cream cheese and mix until fully incorporated using a rubber spatula or a hand mixer.

STEP TWO: Form 1/2-inch-sized balls with the Oreo mixture, rolling in the palms of your hands to create a perfect round shape. Set on parchment paper. Once all of the Oreo mixture is used, place the baking sheet in the freezer for 30 minutes to one hour.

STEP THREE: Melt almond bark in a medium microwave-safe bowl in 30-second increments, stirring in between, until fully melted. Carefully drop one ball at a time into the melted almond bark and coat, allowing any excess almond bark to drip off before returning the balls to the parchment-lined baking sheet. Repeat with all balls.

STEP FOUR: Prepare to decorate the Snowcone Oreo Truffles by filling three bowls with sanding sugar: one filled with red, one with white, and one with blue. In a small microwave-safe bowl, add any remaining almond bark and melt it as you did before until it is fully melted.

STEP FIVE: Using a small paint brush, dip into the melted almond bark and carefully paint 1/3 of the truffle on the left side only. Be sure to do a thin, even layer. Immediately dip the wet almond bark into the red sprinkles.

Once this layer is dry, move on to the middle portion of the ball. Again, lightly paint on melted almond bark onto the middle section of the ball and immediately dip into the white sanding sugar. Allow the white sanding sugar to dry, and complete the last piece of the truffle by painting on the right side of the ball and dipping immediately into the blue sprinkles. Let fully dry.

STEP SIX: If desired, place each truffle in a paper souffle cup, serve, and enjoy!

Tips And Tricks

  • It may take a couple of test balls to find the perfect size for these truffles. If they are too small, they will not sit on the paper cups correctly. If they are too large, you can try gently opening the paper cup until it fits the truffle perfectly.
  • Each layer of almond bark/color must completely dry before you move on to the next color.
  • Almond bark dries fairly quickly, so I highly recommend preparing ALL of your decorating supplies and ingredients before you begin. If the almond bark dries before you are able to sprinkle it, you can try again with a very light second layer of almond bark. Work fast!
  • Use a small (CLEAN!) paintbrush to assist with painting on the almond bark and sprinkles. It is much easier than dipping each ball proportionately into the bark/sanding sugar!
  • You can work one truffle at a time or one color of sanding sugar at a time (EX: complete all of the red sides of the truffles, then all of the white sprinkles, then all of the blue sprinkles.) This will depend on your preference and how quickly you need to complete these.

How To Store Snowcone Oreo Truffles

Store Snowcone Oreo Truffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. For the best results, remove them from the fridge about 30 minutes before you’re ready to enjoy them.

I don’t recommend freezing these balls.

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Chill Time: 1 hour
Total Time: 1 hour 10 minutes
Servings: 20

INGREDIENTS

  • 8 oz cream cheese softened to room temp
  • 13 oz package of vanilla Oreos
  • 24 oz package of vanilla almond bark
  • 1/4 cup red, white, and blue sanding sugar divided
  • 1/2 oz disposable paper soufflé cups optional

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Add the Oreos to a food processor and turn on until fine crumbs form. Dump the crumbs into a medium sized bowl. Add the cream cheese and beat using a hand mixer or spatula until everything is mixed together and a wet dough forms.
  • Form into 1/2 inch balls and place on a parchment paper lined tray. Once all formed place in the freezer for 30 minutes to 1 hour. Once they come out the freezer, grab a small microwaveable bowl and add half the almond bark to it. Microwave and stir until completely melted.
  • Once melted, drop a ball into the almond bark and flip around using a fork until completely coated. Scoop the ball up with the fork and then wipe the bottom of the fork off on the side of the bowl. Using another fork, gently slide the ball back onto the parchment paper, making sure to have the end wiped face down.
  • In three separate bowls, add white sprinkles to one bowl, red in another and blue in the last bowl. In a new microwave safe bowl add the other half of the almond bark and melt in the microwave.
  • (I used a small flat paint brush for this next step) using a small paint brush dip it in the melted almond bark and paint the almond bark on the side of the ball, then immediately dip in the red sprinkles. Repeat: paint a line of the almond bark down the middle of the ball and then dip into the white sprinkles, let dry (takes about 5-10 seconds to harden), then paint the last side of the ball and dip into the blue sprinkles and let sit back on the parchment paper.
  • Repeat those steps to all the truffle balls until done. Place in a paper souffle cup, serve, and enjoy!
