Helpful Tips To Make The Best Cadbury Egg Rice Krispie Treats

  • Salted Butter – Typically, when making sweet treats, you opt to use unsalted butter and then add in additional salt to have more control of the recipe. However, in rice Krispie recipes, I like to use salted butter because I prefer the salty, buttery taste that combines with all the sweetness!
  • Reserve Marshmallows – When making homemade rice Krispie treats, I always reserve extra marshmallows instead of melting all of them. I then mix in the reserved marshmallows when I add in the pretzel pieces and Cadbury eggs. This allows for pockets of marshmallowy goodness to be hidden throughout the treats!
  • Cadbury Eggs – To chop up the Cadbury eggs for the topping, you can crush them in a Ziploc bag by using a kitchen mallet or rolling pin. Or you can carefully cut them up using a knife or a nut chopper.
  • Gently Press – When transferring the rice Krispie mixture into a pan, you want to do so gently! If they’re pressed in too hard, they’ll become compacted, leaving you with tough treats. I also like to first coat my hands with non-stick cooking spray to prevent the mixture from sticking to my hands while I press the treats in.

Storage Instructions For Cadbury Egg Rice Krispie Treats

These treats are actually best when enjoyed the same day they’re made. However, you can store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Any longer than that, and the treats may become hard.

Can I Make This Recipe With Easter M&Ms Instead Of Mini Cadbury Eggs?

Yes! To make these rice Krispie treats with M&Ms, I’d recommend gently stirring them in last, right before the mixture is transferred to the baking dish.

This will prevent the color of the M&Ms from bleeding throughout the mixture.

How Do I Neatly Cut These Rice Krispies Treats?

I’ve found that the best way to cut homemade rice Krispies treats neatly is first to wait until they’re completely cooled. Next, I spray a large knife with non-stick cooking spray, as this will prevent the treats from sticking to it as they’re cut.

Why Did My Cadbury Egg Rice Krispie Treats Turn Out Hard?

It’s possible that the marshmallow mixture was overcooked. It’s important to heat the ingredients just until they’re smooth!

Another possible reason for hard rice Krispie treats is that they may have been pressed too hard into the baking dish. This results in compacted treats that are hard to chew. Instead, gently press them into the baking dish!

EQUIPMENT

  • Large pot
  • 9×13-inch baking pan
  • parchment paper

INGREDIENTS

Rice Krispie Treats

  • ½ cup salted butter melted
  • 12 ounces mini marshmallows divided
  • 7 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • 1½ cups tiny pretzel twists broken up into large pieces
  • 1 cups Mini Cadbury Eggs divided

Optional Toppings

  • Mini Cadbury eggs roughly chopped
  • ½ cup ghirardelli vanilla melting wafers
  • ½ cup wilton candy melts pastel colors
  • Sprinkles

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Line a baking pan with parchment paper and set it aside. You can squeeze the parchment paper up into a ball then run it under water and gently dry it off, this will make it more flexible and easier to work with. The parchment paper will make it easier to remove the rice krispies treats and transfer to a cutting board.
  • Melt the ½ cup salted butter in a large pot over low heat.
  • Set 1½ cups of marshmallows aside for later. Add the rest of the 12 ounces mini marshmallows to the pot with the melted butter and continue to melt on low heat, stirring constantly until smooth.
  • Remove the pot from the heat and fold in the 7 cups Rice Krispies cereal, broken up 1½ cups tiny pretzel twists, 1 cups Mini Cadbury Eggs, and the mini marshmallows that were set aside earlier. Fold together until evenly distributed and coated in the melted marshmallow mixture.
  • Gently spread the Rice Krispies mix into an even layer in the baking pan with a rubber spatula. Do not press it in too hard otherwise it will result in hard to eat treats.
  • Melt the ½ cup ghirardelli vanilla melting wafers and ½ cup wilton candy melts separately in microwavable piping bags on a low setting, massaging the bag every 30 seconds, until fully melted.
  • Drizzle over the prepared Rice Krispies treats and then immediately top with additional chopped Mini Cadbury eggs and Sprinkles.
  • Allow it to cool on the counter for 30 minutes to 1 hour before cutting into squares.

NOTES

  • How To Store: These rice krispie treats are best eaten the same day, but you can store leftovers in an airtight container on the counter for up to 2 days. I do not recommend refrigerating them as they will harden.

To make these rice Krispie treats with M&Ms, I’d recommend gently stirring them in last, right before the mixture is transferred to the baking dish.
